FAQ
How does AcuDetox work?
AcuDetox targets key ear points linked to the body’s nervous system, particularly the “rest-and-digest” (parasympathetic) and social engagement systems. Stimulating these areas helps the body shift out of stress responses like fight, flight, freeze, or dissociation – making it especially powerful for addressing trauma, addiction recovery, and chronic stress.
(As noted by the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture [POCA], this protocol is rooted in both traditional Chinese medicine and modern neurobiology.)
Benefits of AcuDetox
AcuDetox can help people experiencing:
- Reduced cravings for alcohol, drugs, or nicotine
- Minimized withdrawal symptoms during recovery
- Relief from stress and emotional trauma
Safe, accessible, and deeply calming, AcuDetox is a proven tool for holistic healing.
Where did AcuDetox orginate?
The healing power of ear acupuncture for detoxification was first documented in China during the 1950s. Over the past 40 years, health justice pioneers have developed and championed the 5-Needle Protocol (5NP). Continuing this important legacy, POCA’s Auricular Acu-Technician (AAT / ADS) training program certifies practitioners to bring this accessible treatment to communities nationwide.
What exactly is an AAT or ADS?
Auricular Acu-Technicians (AATs), also called Acu-Detox Specialists (ADS), are certified professionals trained specifically in the 5-Needle Protocol. While not full acupuncturists, AATs play a vital role in:
- Addiction recovery programs
- Mental health settings
- Community wellness initiatives
Their specialized training focuses exclusively on ear acupuncture for detoxification and stress relief.
How does group acupuncture work?
In group/community acupunture settings, multiple clients receive treatment together in a peaceful, shared space.
Do I need to undress for treatment?
Not at all! AcuDetox is performed fully clothed – you’ll simply relax in a comfortable chair while we work with ear points only.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as:
- A momentary pinch during needle insertion
- Quick fading to minimal or no sensation
- Often followed by deep relxation
While some points may feel slightly achy (a positive healing response), any persistent discomfort means we’ll adjust the needle immediately. Your comfort is our priority!
How many sessions will I need?
Treatment plans are personalized based on your goals. Acute issues may require fewer sessions compared to chronic conditions. We’ll always recommend the most effective treatment plan, reducing frequency as you improve. Many clients choose to continue periodic sessions for lasting wellness benefits.
